Trip Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trek - 14 Days

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a 14-day journey with 10 days of walking around Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), the world’s eighth-highest mountain. The route follows the Budhi Gandaki River from Machha Khola through river gorges, forests, traditional villages, and high Himalayan valleys before crossing Larke Pass at 5,106 m.

The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, followed by the trail through Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho, Samagaon, Samdo and Dharamsala. Along the way, you cross suspension bridges, pass waterfalls and terraced hillsides, and walk through narrow river valleys and rocky sections.

Above Namrung, forests thin and Tibetan Buddhist influences become more visible through mani walls, prayer wheels, chortens, monasteries and stone houses. Manaslu, Himalchuli and Ngadi Chuli dominate the views as the trail approaches Samagaon.

After acclimatizing in Samagaon, the route continues to Samdo and Dharamsala before the climb to Larke Pass. At 5,106 m, the pass is the highest point of the trek. The trail then descends through Bimthang and Tilije toward Dharapani and the Marsyangdi Valley.

The trek requires a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). A licensed guide and required group regulations also apply. We arrange the permits and paperwork before departure.

Most walking days take 5 to 7 hours, with the Larke Pass crossing taking longer. The route includes steep ascents, long walking days, cold conditions, and high-altitude terrain. Your guide monitors the group, controls the pace, and explains the following day’s route during the evening briefing.

Why This Trek

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The Manaslu Circuit Trek follows old Himalayan trading routes through stone villages, Buddhist monasteries, and the Budhi Gandaki Valley. Over 14 days, the route climbs from lower river valleys to Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m, passing through villages such as Namrung, Lho, Samagaon and Samdo before crossing into the Marsyangdi Valley.

Far fewer trekkers than Everest or Annapurna:

The Manaslu Circuit has fewer trekkers than the Everest and Annapurna routes. The difference is particularly noticeable in the higher valleys around Samagaon and Samdo, where the trail remains quieter even during the main trekking seasons.

A trek that changes completely as you go:

The lower route passes through rice terraces, waterfalls, subtropical forest and river valleys. Above Namrung, the landscape becomes drier and more open, with alpine terrain around Samagaon and Samdo and increasingly rocky ground toward Larkya La.

Two distinct mountain cultures on one trek:

Villages in the lower sections contain Hindu temples and traditional settlements, while communities farther north have strong Tibetan Buddhist influences. Mani walls, chortens, prayer flags, monasteries and stone houses become increasingly common as you approach Samagaon and Samdo.

Crossing Larkya La Pass:

At 5,106 m, Larkya La is the highest point of the circuit. The pass connects the Manaslu region with the Marsyangdi Valley, with views of Manaslu, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and Kang Guru from the high trail.

Is This Trek for You?

Is the Manaslu Circuit Trek right for you?

Yes, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is suitable if you want a remote route with fewer facilities and are comfortable spending several nights in mountain teahouses. The trek passes through restricted areas and reaches 5,106 m at Larke Pass, so you need to be comfortable with changing conditions and limited services at higher elevations.

It is different from more developed trekking routes with easier access to facilities. Above Samagaon, accommodation and food become increasingly basic, and weather can affect the trail and transportation. A licensed guide is required for the restricted section. See our Manaslu Circuit Trek Beginners Guide for details.

The Manaslu Circuit needs some planning because of its restricted area permits, remote sections, and high-altitude crossing. Below, you’ll find practical guides covering the main questions travelers have before and during the trek.

What Is Altitude Sickness on the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

As you climb higher, there is less oxygen and your body needs time to adjust. The trek reaches 5,106 m at Larkya Pass, so altitude sickness can affect anyone. Headache, nausea, dizziness, tiredness, loss of appetite, and poor sleep are common signs. Walk steadily, follow the acclimatization plan, stay hydrated, and tell your guide if you feel unwell. If symptoms worsen, do not climb higher. Descend and let your guide assess you.

Awesome experience with mountain world treks

I did the Manaslu Circuit Trek and I’m really glad I decided to do it. Before the trek, I was a little unsure about how everything would go because it was my first time doing the Manaslu Circuit. But Saligram had everything organized really well. I didn’t have to keep thinking about what was happening next, so I could just focus on walking and enjoying the trek. And then there was my guide, Niraj. he made a big difference to the whole experience. I never felt like I was walking with someone who was just doing a job. We talked, joked around, stopped when we wanted to take photos, and he was always checking that I was doing okay.

There were definitely some tough days. Manaslu is not an easy walk, and there were times when my legs were tired and I was wondering how much further we still had to go. Niraj never rushed me. He understood the pace I was comfortable with and was always there when I needed a little encouragement. Larkya La Pass was probably the day I will remember the most. It was long, tiring and definitely not easy, especially with the altitude. But when I finally reached the pass, all the tiredness somehow felt worth it. Standing there and looking around after all those hours of walking was a pretty special moment. Of course, the accommodation and food are not what you would expect from a normal holiday. This is a remote mountain trek, and some days are basic. But everything was arranged well and I always felt that the company was taking care of us. For me, the Manaslu Circuit was not just about reaching the Larkya La Pass or ticking another trek off a list. It was the whole experience, the people I met, the conversations, the tired days, the unexpected views

I would definitely do another trek with them.

      Manaslu Trek with Niraj

I did the Manaslu Circuit Trek in October with Mountain World Treks, and it turned out to be one of the best trekking experiences I’ve had in Nepal. From the beginning, everything was well organized. Saligram took care of the arrangements properly, from the permits and transportation to accommodation and the overall trekking plan. I never really had to worry about what was happening next which made the whole experience much easier. My guide, Niraj, was a big part of making the trek enjoyable. He was friendly, patient and easy to talk to. He knew the trail well and was always there when we needed help, whether it was checking on how we were feeling, helping with the pace, or explaining things along the way. He didn’t make the trek feel too formal. It felt more like walking with someone who genuinely wanted you to enjoy the experience.

October was a great time to do the Manaslu Circuit. The weather was mostly good, and we had some really beautiful mountain views along the trail. What I liked most about Manaslu was how different the scenery felt as we gained altitude. The landscape slowly changed from green hills and forests to rocky valleys and high mountains. There were rivers, waterfalls, small villages, suspension bridges and some pretty tough sections, but that’s also what made the trek interesting.

The Larkya La Pass was definitely one of the hardest parts for me. It was a long day and the altitude made things more challenging, but having Niraj there made a big difference. He kept an eye on us and made sure we didn’t rush. Reaching the pass after all that walking was a really good feeling. I also appreciated that the company didn’t make everything feel rushed. We had enough time to enjoy the villages, take photos, have tea and just look around. Sometimes the simple moments ended up being my favorite parts of the trek.

The accommodation and food were as expected for a Himalayan trek, and everything was arranged smoothly. Of course this is a remote mountain trek, so you shouldn’t expect luxury, but the overall arrangements were comfortable enough and I felt well looked after throughout the trip.

One thing I especially appreciated was the communication with the company. It gave me confidence that I had chosen the right company. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone planning the Manaslu Circuit, especially if it’s your first time doing a longer trek in Nepal. The organization was good, the route was amazing, and having Niraj as my guide made the experience even better.

A big thank you to Saligram for organizing everything so well and to Niraj for being such a good guide and companion throughout the trek and also the porters. I came back with tired legs, a lot of photos, and some really good memories from Manaslu. I would happily trek with them again.
